My entry today is a slight shift from the verbal to the aural. I want to share just a few thoughts on an experience we shared last night and this morning at Pilgrimage of Peace.
There are so many "things that make for peace," aren't there? One of these has to do with the peace power, the healing power of voice as we share our voices together with and for each other. SO much can be communicated through our precious voices.
So, last night we began a little experiment/exploration. A small circle gathered round one person who expressed a desire/need for prayer. As the small circle encircled her they placed their hands upon her shoulders and head and began to sing/chant a simple sound of oh-chone. It's an approximation of an Irish sound used in laments.
They surrounded her with a simple beautiful melody that poured from their bodies and held her in the sound of their own voices . As they sang they offered their intentions/desires of healing/peace and specifically of courage and fearlessness for this dear friend.
Their intentions were offered with no words initially but only with the beautiful blending of rising and falling voices singing together in harmonies created in the moment. This is prayer. This is healing. This goes beyond the boundaries of thought and language.
This enters those " fields of love" that Rumi speaks of. "I'll meet you there." This is another way of becoming a peacemaker and experiencing the Blessedness of it all. Blessed are the Peacemakers for they are called children of God."
There is a field

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn’t make any sense.
Practice: Allow the voice to rise and fall without words as a soulful prayer with loving intention. Play with this.
