The Illuminated Word:
Exploring Letter, Light and Life
2007 Artist Refuge Retreat
Sponsored by Rolling Ridge Meditative Arts
October 26-28, 2007
Friday Evening - Sunday Afternoon
Harpers Ferry, WV
From sacred scripture to modern day poetry the word has a way of illuminating meaning for our lives. A simple word or phrase can arrest our attention and open us to new awareness and creative expression. Witness the beautiful illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages and the creative ways artists today bring together text and image.
During our retreat we will explore the power of the word, allowing it to shed light on our lives. Through various creative exercises including writing, decorative lettering, and visual pattern and representation, we will delight in the illumination of God’s mystery that we are for each other.
Please bring a particular verse or poem that means a lot to you to share with the group.
Participants are welcome to arrive at the Retreat House between 5 and 7 pm on Friday night. Dinner will be served at 6:30. The retreat will conclude with lunch on Sunday.
Cost for the weekend is $100 (which includes materials, lodging, and meals). Space is limited. Please send a $25 deposit (or the full amount) to reserve your space. Checks should be made out to RRSRC and mailed to RRSRC, c/o Mar 07 Med Arts, 120 Jubilee Lane, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425. Registrations should include any dietary or special needs.
